It's that time again...FOOD POST!

Hello there!  It's been a little while since I've done a food post, so here I go.  We've recently been trying a bunch of new places, in Surry and beyond and a few have even become new favs.

CHICA BONITA (MANLY):  Zac and Anna have introduced us to a new fav in Manly, Chica Bonita.  It's a taqueria style place and probably the best burrito that I've had in Sydney yet.  They also have these amazing seasoned fries with carne asada and cheese, delish!  I also love that they serve micheladas and have a wide range of margs.  Try the watermelon one!

PARMA (SURRY HILLS): We tried Parma about a month or so ago, and I have to say that at first I was a little nervous.  The space is really nice, but there weren't a lot of people in the restaurant.  We decided to give it a go, and I'm thankful that we did, because it was really good!  The waiters are for the most part, all Italian and really nice.  We started with an antipasto plate which was great.  I had the rabbit ragu and tagliatelle (homemade) which was absolutely delish (pictured).  Ryan had the lasagna which was enough to feed two people and also very good.  We will definitely eat here again!

VACANZA IN THE HILLS (SURRY HILLS): THIS is our new fav pizza place in the hood.  It opened a couple of months ago and is awesome.  They have a mozzarella bar, which is bomb.com so you have to get some as a starter for sure.  We are also big fans of the salumi/cheese plate which is HUGE considering it's only $15!  All the pizzas are delish, but my personal favourite is the Il Capitano which has pork and fennel sausage.  Yums!  The desserts are also wonderful.  If you have room try the tiramisu or the nutella and ricotta calzone.

KASBAH (BALMAIN): Holy breakfast!  For $25 a person, you can stuff your face like crazy at Kasbah.  There is really too much to write about, I just suggest that you go and check it out.  One quick tidbit, the meal is topped off with a "pancake".  Which is code for CAKE with chocolate and berries topped with caramel sauce.  Oh.  My.  God.

MOVIDA (SURRY HILLS): So, the famous Melbourne restaurant has just hit Sydney and it truly didn't disappoint.  First off, we had an amazing waiter who helped us navigate the menu, pick our courses and the wine!  We started with the charcuterie plate, all good except the tongue, which I tried but did not like.  We each had a couple of tapas.  I liked the chorizo bocadillos, and Ryan's wagyu air baguette (which was like a cracker).  We also had two racions (like mid-sized dishes) - the mussels and wagyu beef.  Both were insanely good!  We finished with the lamb shoulder, which I swear could've fed us all without the starters!  Finally, our waiter suggested after dinner drinks to top it all off.  We rolled right outta there!

Over the past year, we have been stuffing our faces around Sydney.  So I thought I'd write a blog post to try to capture some of the delicious highlights.  I'm missing many of our favs, but I'll update as I find and upload more pics.  Let the mouth watering begin!

PIZZA E BIRRA

We couldn't find a decent slice of pizza in this city until Pizza e Birra opened on Crown Street.  Their pizza is Neapolitan style with thin crust and lots of fresh ingredients.  We typically order a salad (the pumpkin one is delish) and split a pizza.  The portions are well sized and we sometimes even have room for their amazing tiramisu.  Come early, or be prepared for a wait, because this place is always packed! 

THE NORFOLK HOTEL

Just down the street from us on Cleveland is the Norfolk Hotel.  Home to the Surry Hills hipster type, this place serves up great drinks and has a decent pub menu.  Head there for the $12 rib night or go in on a Sunday for their specialty bloody mary's!

MS. G'S

Merivale establishments are always pretty amazing and Ms. G's fully meets expectations.  Asian street food turned fancy and cocktails with tapioca and self-sealed lids make this restaurant a place that we like to frequent.  LOVE: bahn mi, duck noodles, corn and fried chicken.  If you're still feeling hungry, the stoners delight has ice cream, mars bars and candied bacon!

JAZZ CITY DINER

An American diner in Sydney?  Fried chicken and waffles?  Mac and cheese?  Nuff said!

 MADANG

I love this place, it reminds me of a little fancier Brother's BBQ.  The wait is long but well worth it.  TONS of little side dishes, really good kimchee and all the meat and things to grill to your hearts content!

ROBOCOG

I wouldn't say this is our fav brekkie joint, but it gets high marks from me for their breakfast burrito.  Eggs, cheese and chorizo.  Plus, the atmosphere is super cute and the wait staff is always nice and friendly.

PIMMS

Not a place, but a Sydney fav.  It's like sangria but a little sweeter and perfect for a sunny afternoon.  The best ones that I've had are made by McKay and Esther!

JAMIE'S ITALIAN

I've only been here once, but will definitely go again.  The pasta is all made in house and you can have the option of ordering a half size.  I tried two different kinds.  DELISH!

THE TEA ROOM

High tea with the ladies?  Yes please!  The QVB is a fun place to go with a group of girls for champers and traditional high tea.  Shopping after!

HOMEMADE POKE

Poke in Sydney?  Yes, thanks to Zac Cortez.  Tastes so good, especially when I haven't had it in AGES.

TOKO

I can't write about this place enough.  Freshest sashimi in town, delicious robata and just as lovely desserts.  We go here so often, they sometimes comp us a few dishes!

BOURKE STREET BAKERY

Everything at our local bakery is amazing.  Fennel sausage rolls, ham and cheese croissants and pizzas folded into a neat little package.  And have I mentioned the desserts?  Oh the desserts!

GARDEL'S BAR

Located above Porteno, Gardel's Bar is a place to go for a few small bites and fantastic cocktails.  The bartenders are all extremely nice and will help you decide what to get from their extensive menu.  If you have a chance to sit down, they have a wonderful bar menu.  HUGE charcuterie plate, chorizo and  octopus, cheese plates, sliders, ribs, and so much more.

GNOME

This place has quickly become a local favourite.  It's small and unassuming, but has wonderful cafe food.  I especially love the poached chicken salad and their range of sub sandwiches.  I recently found the three cheese grilled cheese.  AMAZEBALLS.
